The main aim of this project (6PM) (http://ecofit.fatronik.com) is to define a new concept of light, non-rigid machine tools which will enable a 70% reduction in mass, thereby bringing about a drastic reduction in the amount of material used for their manufacture, as well as a 30% saving in energy consumption during use.
This project will combine mass reduction strategies with others based on shock absorption and optical solutions. The foundation of this machine philosophy is that precision in the face of external perturbations can be achieved through mechatronic stability instead of mechanical rigidity.
